The Rumor: I took golf balls away from children.
Not even close. In 2020, just after COVID started, a family went hiking behind the golf course. At the end of their walk they decided to help themselves to about 300 golf balls from back of the driving range. They then decided to sell those balls on Facebook. Someone saw the ad and sent me a message saying that someone was selling golf balls taken from the range. I sent a message to the person explaining that they were selling my property. They claimed they didn't know they had taken them from a driving range (which is a bit hard to believe but whatever). I offered to pay them $60 which was double what they were offered on Facebook. They refused the money and returned the golf balls. I donated the $60 to the Coventry Food Bank and because that seemed like a small donation I gave them another $100. So, in the end, stolen property was returned and the Food Bank got $160. Never met any child.
The Rumor: I threw money at a building official or secretary.
Nope. My wife and I own three rental properties. In 2019 one of the houses was in need of a new roof. I hired a contractor to replace the roof. He obtained a building permit to do the job but COVID hit and everything got put on hold and that permit expired. Two years latter I decided to replace the roof on all three houses (they are all next to each other). The building inspector said he would credit the money from the unused permit, which was very nice and not something he had to do. When my contractor went to get the three new permits he was asked to pay for all three. My contractor mentioned that the building inspector was going to credit one of them so he should only be paying for two. He was told not to pay anything until they straightened out how much was owed. The three permits were issued and work began. My contractor got a call that he needed to pay for the permits. When he went to pay for them they imposed a $250 fine for not paying for the permits earlier, even though they said not to pay for them earlier. I was not happy about this. I wasn't going to have my contractor pay this ridiculous fine so I went to the Building Dept. with the $250. I announced that I was there to pay my fine. They asked on which property and I said "on the one I'm getting screwed on" and they immediately knew which one I was talking about. I slapped the cash on the countertop under my hand and walked out. Nothing was thrown. And for what its worth, my contractor was Mr. Pascua's father.
All work was done with permits and the Town got an extra $250.
